pytest-calendar-chaos

2026

Role

Creator and maintainer: open-source Python package

Overview

Date bugs hide until the calendar hits an awkward moment.

pytest-calendar-chaos runs each explicitly marked test once per tricky scenario with the clock frozen by time-machine.

When a run fails, the report names the scenario, the exact mocked time and zone, and a single command that reruns only that scenario.

It is published on PyPI and requires Python 3.10+ and pytest 8+.

Responsibilities

  1. Designed the calendar_chaos marker with presets for leap day, month end, year end, midnight, ISO week 53, the 2038 limit and DST transitions.
  2. Made test IDs independent of today's date, machine and test order, so saved reproduce commands keep working.
  3. Added a CLI option to rerun a single scenario and a failure report with the scenario, zone and frozen clock.
  4. Added IANA time zone support and clear collection errors for unknown presets and zones.
  5. Set up CI and a PyPI release workflow with manual approval, plus a changelog, contributing guide and security policy.
